Yesterday's Lesson

Yesterday, I needed to run to several different shops and the ol' light bulb in my head lit up as I was visualizing what the day would be like. As I've heard many times, a successful person is always looking for opportunity and a parent can use every opportunity as a teaching experience. So, yesterday I focused on enforcing some steps to follow:

1. Stop to look both ways.
2. Are there any cars coming?
3. If cars are approaching, we wait, are they going to stop? Let's wait until they drive by.
3. Cross quickly. (We need to work on the definition of quickly, I guess I need to make it fun, I must've been using my dry, boring, nursing language because all I got was a blank stare and SLOWNESS. Note to self...keep it fun! Geez. :)
4. Praise and celebrating for following the plan.

Savannah did very well. Most of the time, while I'm headed to the destination, I'm busy thinking about what I need to get at the shop, what I'm fixing for dinner, etc. This day was ALL about crossing the road. Fun was had.

A first time thing for us, which, of course, I thought was darling, was holding Luke's hand, and having Savannah hold Luke's other hand, so that Luke is sandwiched between us. The three of us holding hands and me and my big baby belly. Who am I to deserve such a peace of heaven! That was fun, and functional. The kids liked it and it kept them close to me. That's how we are going to roll from now on. No more hooting and hollering to STAY CLOSE, COME BACK HERE! GRRR! This method is MUCH MORE pleasant. :)

So I'd better tend to the kids, Savannah is pouring a whole bag of goldfish into something in the living room.

Today's lesson: I'm going to work on soft voices verses loud voices and when to use them. We're also going to review yesterday's lesson on crossing the street, we've got a few places to hit up today.
